1. The Spring Trials Meeting is a scratch 36-hole individual medal competition for the Burdass Trophy. Incorporated are prizes for Morning, Afternoon, and Combined Rounds.
2. Play shall be in accordance with the Rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, the Club Local Rules and the Competition Rules.
3. All players wishing to enter must enter On-Line at www.shugc.com. Entrance fees will not be refunded unless intimation of a scratching is received before the closing date for entries, except for those entrants who may be balloted out, or those who have an international commitment, cannot compete, and give notice of withdrawal seven days before the event.
4. Entrants must be of Amateur Status as defined by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.
5. Entrants must be a member & have his handicap administered at a SHUGC affiliated Golf Club, i.e. his home club.
6. The Competition Committee may refuse any entry without assigning any reason for so doing.
7. Sixty competitors shall be allowed to compete. In the event of applications exceeding this number, entries for the higher handicap competitors shall be decided by ballot which shall take place immediately after the closing date for entries.
8. The Committee reserve the right to fix and/or alter starting times. In the event of play having to be abandoned/postponed the Committee reserve the right to amend the rules of the competition.
9. Competitors shall be on the first tee at least five minutes before their starting time for each round. Any competitor who is absent from the first tee when called upon to start will be penalised under R&A rule 5.3 then after ten minutes will be disqualified.
10. In the event of a tie there will be a sudden death play-off to determine the winner. This to take place over an appropriate number of designated holes to be published prior to the commencement of play. Ties for the prize vouchers will be awarded on the 36 hole scores on a card countback over the last 9, 6, 3 and 1 holes of the last completed round. If a tie still arises it shall be decided on the last 9, 6, 3 or 1 holes of the first 9 holes of the last completed round. If a tie still arises, each of the preceding rounds shall be treated in the same way (taking each round in reverse order to that in which they were played) until a decision is reached. If players still cannot be separated, the prize will be shared. AM & PM trophies will be shared if ties cannot be resolved on similar countback.
11. The Burdass Trophy will be a qualifying event for handicap purposes.
12. Any questions or disputes will be dealt with by the Administrator or the Competition Committee on the day, whose decision shall be final. If the Committee is not satisfied with an explanation for a breach of discipline the competitor concerned will be debarred from entering or taking part in any SHUGC event for such period as the Committee shall decide.
