1. The Championship will be a scratch 36 hole individual medal competition.
2. Play shall be in accordance with the Rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, the Club Local Rules and the Competition Rules.
3. Amateur entrants must be a member & have his handicap administered at a SHUGC affiliated golf club, ie HOME club.
4. The Competition Committee may refuse any entry without assigning any reason for so doing.
5. Maximum total entry will be 60 players, entries will be decided by balloting out those with the highest exact handicaps.
6. The Committee reserve the right to fix and/or alter starting times. In the event of play having to be abandoned/postponed the Committee reserve the right to amend the rules of the competition.
7. Competitors shall be on the first tee at least five minutes before their starting time for each round. Any competitor who is absent from the first tee when called upon to start will be penalised under R&A rule 5.3 after ten minutes will be disqualified.
8. In the event of a tie there will be a sudden death play-off to determine the Open Champion. This to take place over an appropriate number of designated holes to be published prior to the commencement of play. Other prizes will be awarded on the 36-hole scores on a card countback over the last 9, 6, 3 and 1holes of the last completed round. If a tie still arises it shall be decided on the last 9, 6, 3 or 1 holes of the first 9 holes of the last completed round. If a tie still arises, each of the preceding rounds shall be treated in the same way (taking each round in reverse order to that in which they were played) until a decision is reached. If players still cannot be separated, the prize will be shared. No competitor will be allowed to receive more than one prize voucher.
9. The Championship will be a qualifying event for handicap purposes.
10. Any questions or disputes will be dealt with by the Administrator or the Championship Committee on the day, whose decision shall be final. If the Championship Committee is not satisfied with an explanation for a breach of discipline the competitor concerned will be debarred from entering or taking part in any SHUGC event for such period as the Committee shall decide.
